The Hobie Compass is such a versatile kayak. Fit-out for fishing, remove it all for recreation and is a great stable sailing kayak.
Simon wanted his fishing kayak to be simple and have the ability to further customise after using it for 6 months. His partner wanted extra stability as she was less experienced in on water sports.
So, the recommendation was to fit Sidekicks for extra stability, two rod holders and a rod leash, a Lowrance Hook2 4 Fish Finder, two map pockets to increase on hull storage, a Trax2 Beach Cart and a dry bag to keep on cameras, keys and phone dry.
At this point in time, Simon wanted to keep the hull weight down and was unsure about fitting the rectangular hatch. I suggested that it could be fitted down the track and we could move the 8" round hatch to the forward cargo area if required for further in hull storage.
We used RailBlaza fittings. Mini Star Port Track mounts for the fish finder and rod holders.
The areas Simon was planning to use his kayak did not require the MD180 Mirage Drive (forward and reverse) but we did upgrade to Turbo Fins for extra performance.
The map pockets work not only for on hull storage, but a neat way to store the fish finder wiring when transporting.
The fish finder was fitted with Berley Pro Visor for better vision on the days with extreme sun glare.
The side kicks were fitted behind the seat leaving enough room for the cart to be stored when on the water.
Simon was very pleased with the finished job and there is still room for future customising if required.
