Western Port NO!...Anderson Inlet 23rd October 2015

23 Oct 2015

It is fair to say that in Anderson Inlet, the term Pinkie Snapper is regularly used. When the Snapper Seaon is full on in Western Port and Port Phillip Bay, a 2kg Pinkie Snapper is a good catch in Anderson Inlet.

November is the usual time to start targeting them. But this year is the season has started early and the quality of fish is that of the larger bays.

Snapper to 3 kg are taking fresh squid baits are being taken in the Mahers Landing region with bigger fish (photos: Judith with this 5.4kg Snapper and John witha 2.9kg Snapper...gilled and gutted) are about. Good numbers of Gummy Shark in the 4-7kg range are taking trevally fillets, pilchards and saury.

The best times are around the tides with the high tide being the peak time, particulary when the change coincides with first or last light.

Rod Bending TIP: Keep your eye on the barometer...after a big low, the snapper and gummies will come back on the bite as soon as it rises again.
